Northern lights near Paris 10-21-01


Pictures on this page were taken in Ecquevilly village, 30 km westwards Paris, on 10/21/01 between 11:15 PM and 11:30 PM. The camera used was an EPSON PC3000Z digital camera. Exposure time was 8 seconds for each picture. Camera sensitivity has been set on its maximum value.

Exposure time has been virtually multiplied by a 3 factor after a numeric treatment.


It is about 11H20 PM. A red vertical pillar is crossing Ursa Major constellation whose 6 bright stars are visible. In te background, the lights of the Mureaux town distant from 3Km, are glowing.

A few minutes have elapsed and the pillar is getting larger.

Aurora is now spreading over the horizon.

15 minutes after the first picture, the aurora has nearly vanished.
